we would think of as sheerly secular skill and adeptness. There is no denying that “ḥoḵmâ [wisdom] can mean technical expertise and other professional capabilities of various types.”11 So, likewise, the חָכָם (ḥāḵām), the wise man, is the “man who has mastered something.”12 It is not hard, then, to see that the elements of skill, adeptness, expertise and savvy are integral to the word.
